HOW IT STARTED : MY STORY
Ever since I can remember, I knew I wanted to be have my own business. I saw my dad running his own wholesale flower business (that he loved) and learned that you can love your career and be your own boss.
But it wasn’t a straight road to success.
I became a single mother at the ripe age of 23 and I never felt like I could quit a job to selfishly search for my dream job. So I worked at job after job always wishing it would lead me to career heaven. Spoiler alert…it didn’t.
I got my real estate license in 2010 after working with a very successful real estate agent because I ran her short sale and REO department and I needed to actually negotiate contracts.
I met my husband in 2012 and he was already a Realtor. We fell in love and got married in short 6 months (crazy right?!) Since he knew I was licensed, he suggested I quit my 9 to 5 sales marketing job and partner up with him. I jumped at the idea!
I’m super outgoing and don’t have a shy bone in my body so real estate sales came very naturally to me.
.
During this time I was learning all about online businesses. I read Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk when it released back in 2011 and all I could do was wish I had an idea for cool app or a business I could run online. I knew in my gut that I would be successful at an online business. But I pushed this desire down because I decided it wasn’t for me.
And then in 2014 I got pregnant and it kicked my butt. After getting ready for work and going to the office, I was falling asleep at my desk by 10 am. My husband encouraged me to stay home for the rest of pregnancy and I eagerly took him up on it. This led to me creating a podcast show about pregnancy (Pregnancy Perfect Podcast) that was super successful! After getting up to over 10k downloads an episode and getting a great following on Instagram, I sold it after 2 great seasons.
My original intention was to build a big audience via the podcast show and somehow create an online business through that. But because no one I knew had ever done something like this, I didn’t think it was possible for little old me. Also, I kept telling myself “well I’m good at selling homes, I should just keep doing this.”
I always had an excuse for why I couldn’t go after my online biz dreams.
